Artist Research - Juan Gris

I have come across Juan Gris when I was researching for my Art History project. When I entered the Chapter about cubism, I was captivated by Juan Gris and his stunning 3-dimensional like art works. With the sophisticated lines and shadings, he was able to create art works that are expressive, at the same time with depth. I am  really interested in his creation of art and how his personal life affected his style.

Juan Gris is born in Madrid, spain. Gris studied mechanical drawing at the Escuela de Artes y Manufaturas in Madrid from 1902 to 1904, during which time he contributed drawings to local periodicals. from 1904 to 1905 he studied painting with the academic artist José Maria Carbonero.

At first Gris Painted in the analytic style of Cubism, but after 1913 he began his conversation to synthetic Cubism, if which he became a steadfast interpreter, with extensive use of papier collé. Unlike Picasso and Braque, whose Cubist works were monochromatic, he painted with bright harmonious  in daring, novel combinations on the manner of his friend Matisse. colors

This is the art work that I like the most. The Landscape with Houses at Ceret has the harmonious composition of colors and the sense of collage. It express a sense of diversity and vibrant nature of the town that Juan Gris was drawing.

Here are the  works of Juan Gris.
