Concentration: City; Buildings; Dystopia

After coming up with so many ideas, I am still wandering which core concept should I choose as my topic for my concentration. I have thought about science-related arts, social issue prompted pieces and my current breadth projects. I was confused and did not know what to do.

During the critique, I really appreciate all the ideas and criticisms on my art works. Even though it was confusing when all of my classmates speak out their own ideas and suggestions, I found all the advices very inspiring to me. Personally, I think my ball project went really well with white outer shells and neon-color painting on the inside. Everything I have done were very different from my initial sketches and blueprints. I really see the critique a best source of information.

Mrs. Jones’ ideas turn out to be the most helpful after all. I really think that taking my breadth pieces and putting them into my concentration would be a good idea. My breadth works have been too much alike and need some more variety so coming up with new piece would improve my breadth portfolio.

However, I can some up or make up my mind for the topic or central idea representing my pieces. Staring with all the projects with black outer cover and vibrant inner color, I do believe that they belong to each other. I first though of “city” or “buildings” to be my subject; yet, I am not sure whether they all related to such idea. I hope that the critique will be hold from time to time in a regular basis. Through such process, we cannot only improve our speaking as well as our independent thinking on artistic styles

2D-3D Richard Pousette-Dart

I am inspired by this art work called the Symphony No. 1, The Transcendental, by Richard Pousette-Dart (1941-1942). This is an art work painted with oil on the canvas and it is currently located in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  After he moved to New York, he was influenced by Abstract artists and become the youngest member of the first generation of Abstract Expressionist. In his artwork , he employs think black contour lines and primitive themes. This work introduces an ancient feeling and extraterrestrial like elements.

Flipping through the Art History Book, I was captivated by the 20th Century arts works and especially the paintings from abstract expressionism. I really think this is a positive inspiration according to the painting (2D) I drew from the inspirations and incorporated the elements form cubism arts works (3D). And this time, I am really excited to do the reverse. When I an working on my ap 3D, I thought of add some more 2D elements in addition to the forms and shapes.

This time, I want to add depths into this art work. In order to expand it, i with to adopt the thick lines and primitive patterns. At the same time, I want to add layers of different patterns to this sculpture. However, I am still tying to come up with an idea for the medium since I have been sticked closely to the current mediums. Thus, I will have to look for ideas from the environment or go to the corner of the art room to look for the treasures.

Draft for the AP 3D Concentration

I have been long though about a central idea for my concentration. It has been hard to find an inspiration. Since the start of this school year, we have be suggested to come up with different ideas for our concentration projects. Initially, I was naive and not sure what to to and where to start. Initially, I have come up with an idea to work on pieces that  have corruption with each other, which means that all the work piece is an art work itself but at the same time, form a larger piece.

After seeing all the AP art works and the artists presentations by all my fellow classmates, I start to realized that it is not enough to make an outstanding art work simply with the ideas with lines and shapes. I have found out that an outstanding portfolio is usually more than just portfolio. What I mean is that the art works have an central idea, a voice, and an ideal.

I have been inspired by Ms. Pamela and Mrs. Jones' talk on the topic about racism. Although I did not personally encountered insults based on my race, many of my friends around the world have been facing serious issues regarding discriminations.

Art is an innate language of human, which means that its a way to promote peace. It is evident that art has influences on the community and thus the entire world. This prompted me to rethink about my concentration. Now, I am still seeking for a way to integrate the idea regarding discrimination and racism into works.

Until now, I want to combine 2D and 3D elements. But I am still not sure what kind of medium I would employ. I have always been told to search for novel ideas for materials. I think, I might have to explore and experience new mediums and look for inspirations in my life. I hope, I would come up with an idea that can make the world a better place. If not the world, a small corner in this part of the world.

AP 3D Concentration Ideas

To be honest, I am not sure what should I do with the concentration in my art portfolio. Reviewing my own portfolio, I am thinking about umbrella projects as well as the pipe projects. However, I was told that I should come up with some more unique mediums other than papers and card boards. I have try to search on some of the ideas for pipe projects. Perhaps, I can try to create different forms and patterns and further creates spaces within my projects.

Considering the reality, pipes my be too large and will take too much time. Thus, I am thinking about something small, delicate and stunning. Before I can come up with a decent idea for my concentration I believe that I would have to do more research and look for dissimilar inspiration in my everyday life.

Artist Research - Juan Gris

I have come across Juan Gris when I was researching for my Art History project. When I entered the Chapter about cubism, I was captivated by Juan Gris and his stunning 3-dimensional like art works. With the sophisticated lines and shadings, he was able to create art works that are expressive, at the same time with depth. I am  really interested in his creation of art and how his personal life affected his style.

Juan Gris is born in Madrid, spain. Gris studied mechanical drawing at the Escuela de Artes y Manufaturas in Madrid from 1902 to 1904, during which time he contributed drawings to local periodicals. from 1904 to 1905 he studied painting with the academic artist José Maria Carbonero.

At first Gris Painted in the analytic style of Cubism, but after 1913 he began his conversation to synthetic Cubism, if which he became a steadfast interpreter, with extensive use of papier collé. Unlike Picasso and Braque, whose Cubist works were monochromatic, he painted with bright harmonious  in daring, novel combinations on the manner of his friend Matisse. colors

This is the art work that I like the most. The Landscape with Houses at Ceret has the harmonious composition of colors and the sense of collage. It express a sense of diversity and vibrant nature of the town that Juan Gris was drawing.

Here are the  works of Juan Gris.

Surprises poped out from the ground

Peter Dahmen is one of the artists who I admire. He is from Germany. I really like his works with card boards.

In his works he carved and cut the paper to prom shapes. Some of his projects are white, which means pristine. Others are colored with diverse and vivid compositions of colors.

I have always wanted to do something with papers since young. I have been trying to build a building with card boards when I was young.

Above is the one that resembles color wheel. It express a feeling of harmony and peacefulness.

This is the one that combines the quality of water and fire.

I was fascinated by the design of cover of +81s magazine by Lo Siento in Spain.  They utilized the plastic bubble wrap to as a medium and than inject color paints into the bubbles to create an art. This inspired me to use different approach to my project. In the future, I am planning to create art in a small units which will be composed into a larger image than it is originally. Through the patterns, shapes and colors, I am able to create diverse kind of tones and even make it into sculptures.

The Sculpture that I Fell in Love with

Its a sculpture of Stampede!!!!! I saw it on an website; however I cannot find any related information of it. It is located in the Glorieta de las Jicamas at the intersection of Lopez Mateos and Niños Heroes.

I was captivated by the motion expressed by the sculpture. It is incredibly life-like. It merges the element of realistic and impressional dynamics. This is the kind of quality that I want to recreate in my project. The liveliness as well and the dynamics. I am glad to find something that would inspire my next art work.

Rhads - Expressive Serenity

While I am scanning through diniantART, I found Rhad's arts be very interesting to me. I was captivated by their calmness and serenity that arts are conveying. Most of his art works have incorporated clouds and sky into its elements. He is expressive in his approach to paint, but they came out to be calm and gentle and somewhat a profound feeling to the nature. Besides, some of his art works are surreal, which depicts sceneries that are impossible to occur in the real world.

I have tried to look for his biography, but it seems like he did not publish his personal informations online.

Most importantly, Rhads has inspired in the way that I am going to develope new styles in my drawing and experience new ways of painting, especially expressive ones.

Here are some of his art works I saw on Illusion.

While I am scrolling down webpage, I was suddenly captivated by the creative illusions created by Ole Martin Lund Bo. In  Ole Martin Lund Bo's sculptures, the lines and shapes merges into a space where the feelings burst out from the core of the sculpture. Perhaps, it is conveying my current feeling even though I did not know what was the actually feelings and things came across my mind. In his art work, he made the chaotic scene contain a sense of harmony.  Ole Martin Lund Bo utilized the element and the principle of art successfully put lives into his art works.
